When a minor is able to provide consent, they should also be able to receive confidential treatment. The laws vary widely, and outpatient, inpatient and substance abuse treatments can all be treated differently. Minors can often consent to these at a younger age. Still, many states have exceptions for sensitive types of treatment, including mental health. In most states, 18 is the age of majority, under which health care providers would need consent from the minor's parent or legal guardian.
